Amare to the Knicks becomes official.

Amare Stoudemire has become a member of the New York Knickerbockers.  He has agreed to a lucrative 5 year 100 million dollar contract, the max amount he could sign for.  While it was debated earlier on the blog weather or not this was a good idea, most Knicks fans are very happy with the signing.  Many people, including myself, believe that this is only the first move for the Knicks and that this signing will lead to another marquee free agent wanting to join the Knicks.  With this signing it almost guarantees  the departure of David Lee who has been a very productive player in his time in New York.Stoudmire can sign the contract on July 8th and by that time the Knicks hope to have agreed to terms with another star.  After two years of waiting, the Knicks have signed a big name star but Knicks fans know that this signing isn't enough and are expecting more.

  1. Ryan: You know my opinion on this. Currently, the Knicks starting five is the unproven Tony Douglas, the 3 point specialist Danillo Gallinari, the one-dimensional slasher Wilson Chandler, the All-Star Amare Stoudemire, and the obese Eddy Curry. How many All-Stars do you count? I count one All Star who doesn't play defense or rebound. That lineup is so bad that Eddy Curry is in it. Looking forward though, they must make more accquisitons if they want to improve. There are 2 options they have to consider: signing Lee and trading him for either Gilbert Arenas, Tony Parker, or Monta Ellis to give them a star ballhandler, and attempting to pry Brendan Haywood away from Dalls to give them at least a hint of defensive ability. If this current Knick lineup starts the regular season, even the Nets are going to beat up on them. A starting five of (Parker, Arenas, or Ellis), Chandler, Gallo, Amare, and Haywood could make serious noise in the Eastern Conference, At least they have put themselves in a position get better. David Lee was too unspectacular to be the star of the Knicks, so good job Donnie Walsh, I guess.
